K99 Teacher Of The Week!

What an honor!  Heather (who had no clue it was coming:)) was honored today as K99's (Northern Colorado Radio Station) Teacher Of The Week.  Throughout all the Northern Colorado cities, they choose a recipient that is nominated by a faculty member, student or parent.  She was surprised in her classroom this morning at 10am in front of the entire 5th grade, given balloons, 5 cd's from the station, a plaque, the nomination letter, and a $50 gift certificate to the Rustic Oven here in town.  I'm not surprised she won this award.  She's amazing!  Congrats Ha:)

Look! She's walking...

The day has come. Heather is officially walking and doing life on two legs as of today. We are so excited and relieved. Although "gingerly" is the best way to describe her walk, it is nonetheless, walking. She will continue to do rehab and strengthen and activate those muscles and ligaments. Just in time too! Baby is looking like he might want to show up a bit early. Our doctors appointment went well and Dr. Priebe said Heather is dialated to 1.5cm and 50% effaced. That doesn't necessarily mean early delivery, but with some minor contractions she's been having, it's more likely. We'll keep you posted.  Enjoy some pictures of our most recent couples baby shower, some fall leaves, the baby's room and a VIDEO of Heather walking today!

Pull my leg...

Yeah!  Heather got to ditch a crutch today and start walking with both legs and the assistance of a crutch.  WOW!  I never thought it would be so amazing to see someone walking.  It was to say the least.  She had a 1 hour physical therapy session at OCR today and they gave her numerous strengthening and range-of-motion exercises for her hand and knee.  These are gonna be great for her to do just a few minutes 3-5 times a day.  Check out a couple of pics!  Only 7 days till she's walking again without the use of crutches.  And a bonus picture...tummy is growing:)

Sierra Noel Haanen

Words cannot describe new life being born...and I haven't even experienced it firsthand yet.  WOW!  A beautiful baby girl named Sierra Noel Haanen was born early Thursday morning, October 2, 2008 weighing 8lbs 3oz and 20 1/2 inches long.  She is gorgeous.  Heather and I are for the second time this year, proud to be an aunt and uncle to little Sierra.  Heathers brother Jeff and his wife Kelly got to experience what most would consider a "textbook/perfect" pregnancy and delivery.  Kelly was a champ and did amazing.  Of course Jeff was her biggest support and prayer warrior through it all.  Enough writing though, I'll let the pictures below tell it all:)  God is good!

That's her best attempt at putting on the "sassy" face:)

Two beautiful girls both in the midst of being and becoming excellent mothers

Two hunks and a little sweetheart...Need I say more?

Resting peacefully

Greg and Gayle drove through the night to be here!  WOW!

Whooooohoooooo!!!!

For those of you wondering about the picture, that's me at the doctors office this morning when Heather had her checkup. Wrist and knee look REALLY good on x-rays and mobility/strength are progressing better than Dr. Baer was anticipating. So what's the deal now??? She can start applying about 30-40% weight-bearing on her leg with crutches for the next two weeks and doesn't have to wear the splint on her hand anymore (unless she feels more comfortable doing so while crutching). October 15th she will be home free to ditch the crutches and be a "normal" 8 1/2 month pregnant woman with 2 legs :). I am so excited for her. She deserves to enjoy these last few weeks of pregnancy as much as she can and with a healthy/more of a 100% body. Maybe we'll celebrate on the 15th by running 10 miles together and biking 40? Just kidding people! What do you think I am, crazy? We'll only do 3 miles and 30 on the bike:)

Oh yeah, by the way...we're only a month or so out from Baby being here. Whoooooohoooooo!!!!!
